Broadcast Pix 3G Switcher Frame
Broadcast Pix will feature a major upgrade in its Slate G series of live video production systems, the 3G Switcher Frame, at the NAB Show in Las Vegas (April 20–23). The firm said the new frame is native 3Gbps 1080p/60 fps and can handle simultaneous multidefinition input/output of SDI I/O for 1080p, 1080i and 720p (as well as SD and DVI).
The company's Slate G series product line includes HD clip and graphic stores, CG, multiview monitoring and proprietary workflow software (dubbed "Fluent"). The upgrade to be demoed at NAB creates the "first 3G-integrated production system," according to Broadcast Pix. The 3G upgrade also helps future-proof upcoming systems with the emerging 1080p standard already found in TV sets, routers, monitors, computers, projectors—not to mention 1080p cameras—said the firm, which is headquartered in Billerica, Mass.
Broadcast Pix said unlike "dual-link" 3G, which is often created by splitting each input into two 1.5 Gbps streams, its native 3G scheme is far less complicated and more cost-effective. The 3G Switcher Frame is a separate box with simple wiring that communicates with a Broadcast Pix workstation over a single bus cable carrying 16 video and key inputs of full resolution clips and graphics.
