NAB2005: Tandberg, Microsoft Take Windows Media Video 9 Outside Box
Tandberg Television, which has been concentrating on the advanced compression encoder arena with some impressive results, is providing end-to-end NAB demonstrations of Windows Media Video 9 (VC-1) and MPEG-4 AVC in live TV over DSL and HD satellite delivery networks. The demos underscore Tandberg's overall strategy for advanced encoding environment encoding, modulation and statistical multiplexing, as well as control and monitoring solutions. The HD advanced compression demo shows Tandberg's advanced end-to-end systems and interoperability with a range of silicon and STB vendors.
Meanwhile, over in the Microsoft booth (SL 332) is a company first: a live HD Windows Media Video 9 (VC-1) demonstration to an STB. The system is using Tandberg's Windows Media 9 Series EN5980 HD encoder to deliver broadcast-quality HD video to an RCA IP1100 HD Networked Entertainment Set-Top Box Platform, which is Thomson's next-generation decoder incorporating advanced video compression technology.
