NAB2006: Hitachi to Debut Two-Piece HD Camera

Hitachi Kokusai Electric America plans to introduce its latest compact HD camera built for rugged environs such as aerial shooting, sports production, within robotic systems, and apart from broadcasting, for high end surveillance applications. Hitachi will first demo its new camera (model DK-H31S HDTV) at NAB2006 in late April (Booth C3926).

The two-piece unit provides both 1080i and 720p resolution via the use of 2/3-inch charge-coupled devices (CCD), which are sensitive electronic apparatus that store packets of information as an electric charge.

The two-piece HD camera is the latest in a growing list of products designed for versatility and primarily shooting in less-than-ideal locations. The company said in a statement that other applications for its HD camera include military-vision submarine assemblies and high-end industrial vision systems where the extra space provided by a small head is typically used for increased magnification optics (that is, larger lens) inside robotic assemblies.

The DK-H31S HD unit will be available in the Q4 of 2006.
