NAB2007: Ikegami, Toshiba to Develop Flash Products for HD

Ikegami and Toshiba Corp. have announced on the eve of NAB2007 that both firms will collaborate in a global effort to develop, manufacture and market what it calls a new generational system of video production/editing products based on flash memory technology--and the high storage demands of HD content.

Under an agreement signed in Tokyo and to be further detailed at NAB2007, the two companies will work together to develop the necessary components of an advanced tapeless video production and editing system, including professional-grade cameras and video recorders, by tapping into "the robust versatility of flash memory as the main storage medium," the firms said in a statement. At NAB2006, Toshiba debuted its On Air Max flash memory storage system, the company's first such product for the U.S. broadcast industry.

Ikegami and Toshiba said they both plan to heavily promote the new concept industry-wide prior to their target release date of a year from now--April 2008.
