NABEF selects KMOV-TV for service award
KMOV-TV, the Belo-owned CBS affiliate in St. Louis, has won the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) 2007 Service to America Partnership Award, the highest public service honor given in the broadcast TV industry.
The award honors TV stations that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to public service in their local communities.
KMOV was recognized for its partnership with Variety, the Children's Charity of St. Louis, for donating airtime to raise funds for children with physical and mental disabilities in the greater St. Louis area.
Since the partnership began 20 years ago, KMOV's support has helped raise more than $48 million for the program. In 2006, the partnership was reinvented, and in addition to traditional programming, a two-hour primetime special entitled "For the Love of the Kids" aired. This component was the heart of the entry and helped to generate a record amount of contributions totaling $3.4 million.
KMOV will receive the award June 11 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
