NAB’s Wharton named executive VP, media relations

Dennis Wharton, the long-time public spokesman for the NAB as its senior vice president, corporate communications, has been promoted to executive vice president, media relations, the trade organization said. NAB president and CEO David K. Rehr announced the move.

Following a 16-year stint in journalism, including reporting from Washington for “Variety,” Wharton joined NAB in June 1996 as vice president of media relations, serving as the chief spokesman for the association. In his new position, Wharton’s duties will include outreach and public policy advocacy to the national news media on behalf of broadcasters. He will also continue to serve as a strategic adviser to Rehr, the NAB’s senior staff and to NAB member stations.

Wharton received his B.A. in journalism from Ohio State University.
