National Mobile Television Announces Two New HD Trucks
National Mobile Television (NMT) has accepted delivery of two new HD mobile units, HD10 and SBS1 constructed by Venue Services Group (VSG). These mobile units feature the latest in HD equipment and can work in tandem to satisfy for both national and regional sports networks.
HD10 is a full-scale, 48-foot expando truck, with state-of-the-art live broadcast equipment that includes a Sony MVS8000 Switcher, a Yamaha PM4000-52 Audio Console, Grass Valley LDK6000 cameras with Canon 100x and 86x lenses, and four 4-channel EVS HD LSM-XT Digital Disc Systems.
SBS1 represents a new concept in sports broadcasting that will enable rights holders to provide more efficient, full production television coverage for the visiting team’s fans. This “Side-by-Side” unit is a smaller, 30-foot truck that provides full audio, graphics and engineering for HD and SD broadcasts. This gives visiting sports teams all of the camera feeds and replay functions of the main truck, in a more compact mobile unit. Onboard networking capability interfaces with the host router, production switcher, communication and EVS systems. The SBS1 has its own Sony switcher, Midas audio console with surround sound mixing ability, an HD/SD EVS and Chyron Duet Graphics.
The concept for the SBS1 was developed by Jerry Gepner, President of NMT. "When tied to a host unit, SBS1 has all the functionality of a full-scale production unit in a much more compact environment. Now, visiting teams, international broadcasters and foreign language producers can provide top-notch coverage to their audiences without the need for a traditional production unit.”
“We were very excited to be able to bring Jerry’s concept of the SBS to fruition,” said Dave Shaw, President of Venue Services Group. “In fact, HD10 and SBS1 were the first mobile units built in our new twelve-thousand-square-foot facility. Our staff provided a high-end design with superior engineering in these new HD production trucks.”
HD10 and SBS1 now serve Fox Sports Net Bay Area for their HD broadcasts of the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics.
