Turner Sports, which airs the NBA All-Star Game every winter on TNT and TNTHD, has cut a deal with Cinedigm this year to provide All-Star festivities in 3D HD to movie theater patrons around the United States on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, on the eve of the big game.
Billed as "NBA All-Star Saturday Night," the telecast will feature three-dimensional HD technology from Pace (special glasses a necessity, as usual) to cover such ad-sponsored pre-game contests as the Sprite Slam Dunk contest, the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout, the Haier Shooting Stars and the PlayStation Skills Challenge.
Cinedigm, based in Morristown, N.J., said it has "certified" several hundred cinemas from coast-to-coast to carry the NBA events, which has used the technology before. (The game itself will not be available in 3D in theaters.) Both the "NBA All-Star Saturday Night" and the Sunday night game (8 p.m. EST) will originate from U.S. Airways Center, the home of the Phoenix Suns.
