NBC News is set to deploy an integrated 2U digital flyaway uplink package designed for two-way audio, video, data and communications from a remote transmission site. It will transmit to NBC Studios via its MSNBC Secaucus teleport.
TANDBERG Television developed the digital satellite technology used in the flyaway system in cooperation with Raytheon. The new system will be used to support NBC's news coverage from the Middle East.

Using a fold-up 1.2-meter antenna and a telecom center the size of a small suitcase, the system can handle voice, video and data simultaneously at speeds up to 3.8 Mbps. The 1.2-meter antenna assembles in less than 30 minutes and can transfer extremely high data rates. The system is transportable and can be easily carried by one person.
Previously, similar DSNG applications using low symbol rate modulation have utilized satellite phones, which eliminates real-time transfer of data at low bit rates and significantly compromises image quality.
