NBC said to seek alliance with Vivendi
NBC is intent on joining the bidding for the non-music entertainment assets of Vivendi Universal , but wants to form an alliance with Vivendi rather than buy it out, according to published reports.
NBC, which would need the approval of its corporate parent, General Electric, before making any formal offer, wants to combine its broadcast and cable television operations with Vivendi Universal’s entertainment assets in an arrangement that would give it majority control, reported The New York Times.
The newspaper said that Vivendi Universal is eager to have NBC in the bidding, in part to put pressure on Liberty Media, which is considered the most aggressive of all the companies that are pursuing Vivendi’s media businesses.
Both NBC and Vivendi declined to comment on the story.
