NBC Wins Two Primetime Emmys for Torino Coverage

NBC Sports won two Emmy Awards, including Best Variety, Music or Comedy Special this week for its coverage of the Torino Winter Olympic Games. The awards were announced Saturday in Los Angeles by the National Academy of Arts & Sciences.

NBC Sports' coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Torino Games won the Primetime Emmy Award in two categories:

  • Best Variety, Music or Comedy Special
  • Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special

Dick Ebersol was executive producer of the Opening Ceremony of the Torino Winter Games. David Neal and Molly Solomon were producers. Robert LaMacchia led the technical direction for the Opening Ceremony.

The Sports Emmy Awards for 2006 will be announced in spring of 2007.

NBC Sports' coverage of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games won a total of nine Emmy Awards: three Primetime Emmy Awards, including Bucky Gunts' win for Best Director of a Variety, Music or Comedy Program, and six Sports Emmy Awards.
