NBCSports.com launches with enhanced video offering
NBC Sports launched a significant enhancement to NBCSports.com this week to coincide with the beginning of the football season and the regular season debut of "NBC Sunday Night Football."
As a key component of the launch, NBC Sports has acquired Allstar Stats, according to Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics and executive vice president of Strategic Partnerships, NBC Sports. Allstar Stats provides fantasy sport games and its Rotoworld.com site is among the highest-trafficked fantasy sports sites on the Internet.
The NBCSports.com site, which currently focuses primarily on football coverage, will feature all major sports. The site will provide live event coverage, extensive video highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and up-to-the-minute news and analysis. It will also provide fantasy football games through Allstar Stats/Rotoworld.com.
As part of the revamped online offering, NBCSports.com has partnered with global online broadcaster MediaZone to offer fans live broadband coverage of sporting events from around the world. The NBC/Mediazone partnership began with Wimbledon and the recent FIBA World Basketball Championships.
NBC will share content and distribution through many of its affiliated stations, similar to the model used on NBCOlympics.com, localizing the experience for site visitors. To date, more than 150 affiliates have signed on.
