NBCU Keeps Weather Channel’s People, HD facilities in Atlanta
NBC Universal may have one of the most well-known addresses in the nation at 30 Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, but its newest acquisition will keep its Southern roots intact.
NBCU gathered Atlanta-based The Weather Channel under its widening corporate wing a few days ago, and quickly told its meteorologists and other staffers (as well as the Atlanta media) that the Peacock Network plans to keep all TWC personnel—and its new HD studios—operating out of its longtime home base.
The 24-hour weather network (including weather.com online and other related businesses) was sold to NBCU for an undisclosed amount.
TWC will continue to operate as a separate unit based in Atlanta, where its HD studios are now said to be a “critical part” of the NBC family, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
