The new NEC wireless HD transceiver transforms uncompressed HD video and audio signals into 1Gbps digital data stream for transmission on the 60GHz band.
NEC has developed a compact 60GHz wireless transceiver to transmit uncompressed HDTV signals that could usher in an era in which no cable connectors are required for consumer HDTV sets and displays.
Features of the wireless video transmission equipment include:
- 60GHz band transmission: The transceiver inputs and outputs high-quality component video signals. Uncompressed HDTV signals and stereo audio signals are transformed into a 1Gb/s digital-data stream, and then converted to the 60GHz band to allow wireless transmission.
- Small size: The transceiver is 2.76in x 1.97in x .59in.
- Path diversity: Such a scheme is used to reduce the chance of link-disconnection problems associated with indoor use. A dual receiver configuration enabling two transmission paths ensures continuous transmission as automatic switching from one path to another occurs when an obstacle disturbs the link.
The HD transceiver is likely to play an important role in the proliferation of HD displays by making it easier for consumers to place HDTV sets, projectors and panels in their homes without disrupting their décor.
