New ABC Facility Taps Ross openGear
Ross Video is introducing an openGear 3 Gbps Fiber line solution, providing a range of up to 40 optical/electrical conversions in 2 RU. The line, to be introduced at IBC 2009, allows customers to choose the number of conversions and the number of reclocked inputs/outputs.
Ross also announced that ABC Television has placed a major order for openGear 3-Gbps-capable Fiber interconnect, frames, distribution amplifiers, audio/video multiplexers and demultiplexers with the Dashboard control and monitoring application, for the new HD Central Switching Center facility in New York. The CSC facility will be the primary central routing and signal processing installation for all of ABC’s inbound feeds, internal routing and distribution, and quality control monitoring.
“The open frame standard of openGear, our powerful DashBoard control and monitoring system and a new series of 3G Fiber products were key to Ross winning this business," said Ross Marketing Product Manager Eric Goodmurphy. “Our 3G products include a new series of copper to fiber and fiber to copper receive and transmit modules including a high-density dual unit as well as 3G single card Mux + Fiber and Fiber + Demux.”
As part of the Fiber launch Ross is also introducing a 3G capable HD/SD 16 channel audio MUX/DMX. “The flexible audio proc allows for invert, sum, swap, shuffle, gain, and sample rate conversion,” said Goodmurphy. “These solutions can be locked to house reference guaranteeing glitch-free audio embedding even on the loss of input video.”
The Ross Fiber line brings data rates from 143 Mbps to 2.97 Gbps.
Folks wanting to learn more about 3 Gbps transport can attend a session on the subject at Broadcast Symposium East, part of Government Video Expo, Dec. 1-3 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The session on 3 Gbps transport is Weds., Dec. 2, at 10:30 a.m.
Ross also announced it is shipping the CrossOver 16 HD/SD production switcher introduced in April at the 2009 NAB Show. It’s aimed at producing high-end productions from a compact studio, flight pack or ENG vehicle.
