New England Sports Network Adds SSL Console to New HD Truck
The New England Sports Network has added a new high-definition truck to enhance HD acquisition, production and broadcast capabilities. The truck is equipped with a Solid State Logic C100 digital audio console.
"The new truck is part of the master plan for our migration to all HD, all the time," said Michael Narracci, NESN's senior coordinating director. "The three components of HD are aspect ratio, resolution and 5.1 audio. The latter was the missing link in our production--we were still doing stereo. One of the biggest advances we've made by moving into this truck is that we're now 5.1-capable."
Narracci said the decision to acquire the SSL console came after an NESN broadcast in Toronto in which two C100-equipped CBC trucks were used.
"The audio mixer, Howard Baggley, was raving about it," said Narracci. "He said it was absolutely the best board for mixing 5.1."
NESN started doing HD broadcasts in 2003 and in 2006 became the first regional sports network to broadcast every game in HD.
