New York College Taps Hitachi for HD Studio Cameras
Bergen Community College in Paramus, N.J. is outfitting its new production studio with three Hitachi SK-3020P HDTV studio/EFP cameras, according to the Woodbury N.Y. gear maker.
While the main studio continues to be tethered to an SD switcher, a nearby facility houses a Thomson Grass Valley Kayak HD switcher for full HD production. A second Kayak is on order for the studio.
Bergen is a long-time Hitachi shop, having started out with the company’s FP-Z31P Plumicons, which were later replaced with Hitachi Z-One-Cs, followed by Hitachi Z-2010s, then the standard-def Z-4000s now used in the student studio, and now the SK-3020Ps.
The school produces public affairs programming for cable distribution as well as renting out the facility, which features a 1,500-foot fiber-optic cable run from the studio to the campus theater. The setup allows for remote control and switching of cameras in the theater.
