NFL officials shift to HD for instant replays
NFL referees might be spending a little less time reviewing controversial calls this season because of HD replay systems the league will be integrating into the game for the review of close calls.
The new HD systems will enable referees on the field and in replay booths to scan and freeze frame HD footage to more accurately rule on sideline catches, goal line stands and critical plays frequently challenged by coaches.
The HD instant replay systems, which are being supplied by Harris, are being installed in 27 NFL stadium replay booths, which are staffed by replay officials, a video technician, a video operator and a communicator. Booths at the four remaining NFL stadiums — New York, Dallas, Indianapolis and Kansas City, MO — will be activated after the stadiums are renovated. Harris also supplied two other HD instant replay systems for use by the NFL to train officials.
