NHL hockey in Canada gets LiveHive interactive treatment
Rogers Sportsnet will use an interactive entertainment platform from LiveHive Systems for its NHL hockey telecasts throughout the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 hockey seasons. LiveHive Systems’ NanoGaming technology will support Rogers Sportsnet’s “Game in the Game” feature, which debuted on Sportsnet West Oct. 12. While they watched the game live on Rogers Sportsnet, viewers played along by logging onto www.sportsnet.ca/gameinthegame/. Sportsnet features games of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and the Ottawa Senators.
“Game in the Game” brings interactivity to every televised Sportsnet NHL game. Fans are able to make such predictions as who will score the next goal or who will be thrown into the penalty box first. They can also answer trivia and take part in polls. In addition, fans are able to chat with other hockey fans and create groups with their friends.
Participants compete against each other for points, prizes and a position on the leader board and are also eligible for prizes, including HDTV’s and prize packs.
This past summer, LiveHive worked with Turner Sports for 17 televised races of the NASCAR racing season.
