Nielsen to Report HD Ratings by Year's End
While various estimates currently place HD presence in U.S. homes at about 25 percent (or about 28 million dwellings), no one knows how many are actually watching HD broadcast, DBS and cable content. Beginning in November, Nielsen will attempt to answer some of those questions when it starts measuring ratings of HD content.
The ratings firm also will begin measuring other forms of electronic new-media venues. It soon will start gauging television content that is time-shifted via digital video recorders and subsequently viewed, according to TG Daily.
The first ratings report on HD viewing from Nielsen (nationally and in designated market areas using Local People Meters) will be published next January.
