North Carolina community college installs For-A Hanabi switcher for new video production center

Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), in Wilmington, N.C., has unveiled a new digital video production studio based around the Hanabi HVS-3000S SD digital video production switcher from FOR-A Corporation of America.


A FOR-A Hanabi HVS-3000S SD digital video production switcher is installed at Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), in Wilmington, N.C. The Hanabi series HVS-3000S is a two-M/E video switcher. . The standard configuration provides three key layers per M/E, 16-to-32 inputs, chroma key capability, (1 each per M/.E), a four-frame still store, and 100 wipe patterns.

The new video 30’ x 50’ production center, complete with a lighting grid and four Ikegami HL-40 cameras (with switchable aspect ratio) is located in the campus library building.

A variety of educational and marketing videos will be produced and distributed among the college’s students, via videotape and a new VOD system that will be available to the student body from any computer.

The Hanabi series HVS-3000S is a two-M/E video switcher that’s suited for live 525/60 (NTSC) and 625/60 (PAL) production. The standard configuration provides three key layers per M/E, 16-to-32 inputs, chroma key capability, (1 each per M/.E), a four-frame still store, and 100 wipe patterns, plus fast operational response and simultaneous multi-function capability. The flexible SD switcher is fully expandable, including the addition of up to four floating DVE channels and eight or 12 component serial digital inputs.

The college is also considering installing FOR-A’s digiWarp EX-2 virtual studio technology to create a variety of new sets for its studio productions without having to store props and build furniture. The virtual set system will be demonstrated at the video production center’s open house event this month.

The college plans to inaugurate a local cable channel by the end of the year with the Hanabi switcher.
