NTT Says Single-chip Codec Supports True HD for CE Market
NTT Electronics said this week it has developed two single-chip video compression large-scale integrations that will support HD and are now available.
Unlike existing full-spec products that convert 1920 x 1080 to 1440 x 1080 before encoding, NTT says its new Super ENC V and Libra ENC support "full-spec HD" by achieving direct coding and decoding of 1920 x 1080 images. NTT said the codecs can compress and restore high-resolution, full-spec HDTV images without any loss of quality.
The new chips tap into technology originally developed for broadcast codecs, including high image quality algorithms, as well as low delay, low-power algorithms that reduce the amount of required calculation while maintaining image quality. As a result, NTT said the new codesc enable studio-quality HD images for a wide range of CE products.
