Number of U.S. TV Stations Increases

published The FCC released its report on the total number of broadcast stations as of Dec. 31, 2006. Compared with a year ago, the total number of VHF TV stations increased to 715 stations from 714 in the Dec. 31, 2005 report. The number of UHF TV stations increased to 1,041 from 1,036 at the end of 2005. The number of Class A TV stations took a sharp drop, to 567, from 592 the previous year while the number of LPTV stations increased from 2,145 to 2,227. TV translators totaled 4,518 (19 less than in 2005).
