N.Y. Racing Association Adds Omneon Storage
The New York Racing Association (NYRA) is now using an Omneon Spectrum media server and MediaGrid storage systems in connection with its new mobile production and broadcast facilities. The Omneon gear provides real-time ingest and playout of racing coverage from Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga racetracks.
The server is also used for slow-motion playbacks and replays from the horse races being covered.
“In the fast-paced world of horse racing, flexible and reliable technology is a must,” said Robert Mohan, NYRA’s chief engineer for television operations. “As we undertook a complete overhaul of our mobile production and broadcast infrastructure, seeking to improve efficiencies and leverage valuable content more effectively, we found that the Omneon Spectrum and MediaGrid systems offered the greatest combination of stability and versatility in managing media.”
The NYRA facility buildout includes two mobile units designed around a 16-channel Omenon Spectrum. NMT/Venture Services Group, working in concert with Mohan, provided design work for the new vehicles.
