NY1 launches viewer-programmed content

Time Warner Cable’s NY1 News has launched “The Call,” a television newscast programmed exclusively by viewers. The custom rundown technology was programmed by Outlook Technologies, based in Chicago.

The Call, which airs each weeknight at 9 p.m., allows viewers to program the show through a Web-based tool similar to one the channel’s producers use in their newsroom. Viewers select from a computer-generated rundown of all the stories available for that night’s broadcast.

Viewers can drag-and-drop the stories into the order they desire, then submit their personal rundown to the show’s producers. The 9 p.m. broadcast reflects the average of all the rundowns received that day.

Steve Paulus, NY1’s senior vice president and general manager, said that by becoming more interactive and giving viewers a choice about what they’ll be watching, NY1 will become even more indispensable.

The program’s Web page is available at http://ny1.com/TheCall.
