OCAP and eTV Platforms On Display at CableLabs Event

Twenty-eights firms recently demo-ed interoperability on the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) and eTV at a recent CableLabs event.

Osmosys, Panasonic R&D Company of America; Samsung Electronics, NDS, LG Electronics, ADB; Pioneer Research USA, Motorola and Scientific-Atlanta all demonstrated production-intent and software development platforms. Vidiom Systems Corp., Zappware, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, and Time Warner Cable Interactive provided OCAP applications and content.

"The recently released CableLabs eTV Application Messaging Specification specifies the synchronization and signaling mechanisms to be used by these eTV applications, regardless of the target receiver or middleware environment," said Don Dulchinos senior vice president of advanced platforms and services at CableLabs.

UniSoft Corp., Strategy and Technology Ltd., Softel-USA, Thales and DigiSoft.tv provided application servers, object carousels and other play-out equipment necessary for injecting interactive content and application signaling into the MPEG transport stream. Panasonic, Samsung Electronics, Scientific-Atlanta, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable and others provided OCAP applications and content.
