OmniBus Systems, a provider of on-air automation and media asset management solutions, announced that Time Warner Cable’s newest 24-hour local news channel, News 10 Now in Syracuse, N.Y., is using its automation system.
Time Warner Cable has pursued an aggressive rollout schedule for its 24-hour news facilities. It has utilized the same OmniBus-based automation system from site to site, successfully launching six local news outlets over the course of 22 months.
Like systems now deployed at Time Warner Cable's 24-hour news stations in Raleigh, Charlotte, Albany, Houston, and San Antonio, News 10 Now’s OmniBus automation system is integrated with a Pinnacle Systems Vortex video server, AP’s ENPS newsroom production system, and VertigoXmedia graphics automation. The system enables broadcast of local news, weather, and sports delivered in a flexible “wheel” format.
In the new Syracuse facility, an ENPS terminal uses a dedicated WAN to launch OmniBus applications at each of the five remote bureaus—the most applications ever deployed simultaneously—in Rome, Oswego, Ithaca, Watertown, and Potsdam. The OmniBus system serves as the central interface for controlling devices, obtaining feedback, and relaying playout messages, and the OmniBus Desktop Control (ODC) interface gives users the ability to search and browse archived material, create graphics, insert production elements for studio events into a script, and control a variety of other functions from a single desktop.
Live and recorded segments are aired in sequential combination dictated by breaking news to provide seamless, up-to-the-minute newscasts for viewers.
