Open IPTV Forum nears release of specifications
The pan-industry initiative known as the Open IPTV Forum is close to completing a specification aimed at allowing IPTV to develop into a mass market service, the group said Sept. 9.
Meeting at the headquarters of Sony Europe in Berlin Sept. 8-11, the Open IPTV Forum announced finalization of a number of detailed system and protocol specifications for its first release. The specifications are intended to allow deployment of interoperable IPTV networks and devices and lay out a path for future evolution.
The release covers audio and video media formats; content metadata; protocols for home networks, user network and network-to-network interfaces; declarative application environment; procedural application environment; and content and service protection. The specifications will be published on the group’s Web site in mid-November.
The forum also announced the addition of seven new members, including:
- enCentro (Neuvex Lda Trading as enCentro Systems);
- HwaCom Systems;
- Institut fuer Rundfunktechnik;
- Neotion;
- Sigma Designs;
- UTStarcom; and
- WyPlay.
