Austrian broadcaster Oesterreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) has selected the NTT Electronics HV9100 series AVC/H.264 HDTV/SDTV encoders/decoders for use during HD sports coverage.
In June 2008, ORF broadcast EURO 2008, the UEFA European Football Championships, in HD using the NTT Electronics HV9100 series encoder/decoder. The encoder/decoder allowed ORF to deliver real-time HD transmission via the ATM network of Telecom Austria. For the ORF broadcast, the HV9100 Series supported live HD AVC/H.264 High-Profile 4:2:2 (8-bit), high bit rate (55Mb/s) contribution delivered in high video quality.
The HV9100 series allows sports broadcasts with intense action to be shown in high video quality with low latency.
The HV9100 series supports both HD (1080i/720p) and SD (480i/576i) and a maximum of two audio systems, for a total of eight-channel encoding and decoding.
