Pa.-Based Telco Taps Optibase Video Over DSL

published Clarion County, Pa.-based Venus Telephone Corp. will use Optibase's MGW 5100 carrier-grade TV streaming platform to deliver more than 130 live TV and music channels over telephone lines to its subscribers.
Located in the digital headend, the MGW5100 unit can transmit up to 64 video channels received from various live or pre-encoded sources. TV content is encoded in low bitrate MPEG-2 and transported over Venus' ADSL networks, provided by Next Level Communications. The platform supports MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) and Windows Media.
