Panasonic DVCPRO formats help Olympics shine

As the official supplier of equipment to the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and other broadcasters, Panasonic is providing DVCPRO P2 solid-state memory as well as DVCPRO HD and DVCPRO50 production gear for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

In total, 200 DVCPRO VTRs, 100 cameras and camcorders and 600 LCD monitors are being used within the IBC, and at various venues in and around Turin, Italy.

The host broadcaster of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, Torino Olympic Broadcasting Organization (TOBO), is using DVCPRO 50 as its official video recording format and is using numerous Panasonic VTRs, camcorders and monitors. It is also using Panasonic’s AJ-HD1200A HD VTR, which can handle both HD and SD signals.

Panasonic supplied broadcast video equipment and maintenance support to the host broadcaster during the Barcelona (1992)‚ Atlanta (1996), Nagano (1998), Sydney (2000), Salt Lake City (2002) and Athens (2005) Olympic Games. In Athens, Panasonic’s 4:2:2 50Mb/s DVCPRO 50 equipment was the official video recording format, where camcorders and decks covered more than 3200 hours of live sporting competition during 17 days.
