Panther to mark milestone
Panther this year will celebrate a milestone with the sale of its 1000th column dolly since it opened its doors 25 years ago, the latest in its list of accomplishments, which includes its 1990 technical Oscar for its electromechanical dolly, the company said last week.
In 1990, the Super Panther, received the Scientific and Engineering Award in Hollywood. Today, Panther dollies are used on major movies worldwide.
The first computer-operated, electromechanical column dolly was developed in the office of Munich-based rental house FGV, the first company established by Panther founder Erich Fitz and his partner Hajo Schmidle, in 1983.
The consistent development of the digital electronic system of the Super Panther II, the successor of the Panther dolly, was honored with the Oscar.
