Pappas Buys ESCIOT Powered Ai Quantum Transmitters
Pappas Telecasting has selected Ai Quantum UHF transmitters with e2v ESCIOT water-cooled tubes for two of its stations. The transmitters for WSWS-TV in the Columbus, Ga. market and WMMF-TV in the Green-Bay, Wis. market will use the transmitters for analog service. Both stations will transmit 5,000 kW effective radiated power. WMMF will also purchase a 30 kW Quantum digital transmitter. All of these transmitters are scheduled to be installed before the end of the year.
Acrodyne Industries (Ai) claimed the first installation of a water-cooled depressed collector ESCIOT equipped Quantum transmitter at WNUV in Baltimore. See RF Report for April 5, 2004. The press release announcing the Pappas purchase, Ai said Pappa's power usage will be reduced by 25 percent compared with conventional IOT transmitters. Both analog transmitters are rated at 240 kW output and according to Ai "are among the first applications of depressed collector IOT technology in analog service."
Nat Ostroff, Chairman and President of Ai, said, "With this order, Ai now has well over two dozen depressed collector water-cooled IOT amplifiers in service or under contract, including a 240kw system installed at WNUV-TV in Baltimore, Maryland. This total represents more than all of the other suppliers combined."
As noted in the WNUV installation report, Ai will be displaying depressed collector Quantum transmitters at Booth 3836 at NAB.
