Pappas Upgrades With Utah Scientific
Pappas Telecasting Companies has upgraded the group's Omaha, Neb. facility with a digital router and control equipment from Utah Scientific.
Pappas has installed a Utah-400 32x32 SD and 16x16 HD routing switcher, which is integrated with an Omneon Spectrum video server. The switcher and server are controlled by an Nverzion automation system.
"In the future, more and more of the plant is going to be IP-based, and we needed a solid SDI core for on-air switching, which this upgrade provides," said Dale Scherbring, vice president and director of engineering at Pappas Telecasting. "I like the small footprint (of the Utah-400) and the flexibility to load both SD and HD in the same frame."
The Omaha facility delivers four broadcast streams, including KAZO's Azteca America programming; Fox network offerings via KPTM; CW network programming from KXVO; and also MyNetwork TV carried as KPTM's second tier.
