Path 1, Aurora Release First Integrated HD Multi-QAM System
Path 1 Network Technologies, a video over packet-based IP networks provider, and Aurora Networks, supplier of optical communications systems for HFC and fiber-deep broadband networks, are offering cable operators a new GigE, multi-QAM product that can mix and match SD and HD VOD as well as Path 1's "Music on Demand" (MoD).
Cable operators can use the gear to deliver on-demand services to digital subscribers through their existing HFC network infrastructure by migrating their video and audio to an IP-based transport approach. Path 1 created an integrated video multiplexer gateway and QAM, which will soon be marketed by Aurora. This software-driven network processor-based design provides upgradeable, scalable configurations, letting operators use a range of selectable bit rates to support "on-the-fly" mixed streams, from audio for MoD applications, to SD VOD programming and HDTV.
