Path 1, Level 3 Complete U.S-Europe Video-Over-IP Trials
Path 1 Network Technologies, a video-over-IP provider, and Level 3 Communications have wrapped up video-over-MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) transport trials between the U.S. and Europe.
The testing combined the (3) Packet Gigabit Ethernet Service over Level 3's international MPLS network and Path 1 Network's Cx1000 Video-over-IP Gateways to facilitate 270 Mbps SDI or variable bit-rate ASI transmissions. The tests demonstrated 0.25-second latency between the two continents across 12 MPLS switches.
According to Path 1, its Cx1000 is the only device that lets broadcasters insert and manage digital video across MPLS and IP networks. The (3) Packet Network lets broadcasters use real-time uncompressed video for applications including the transmission of unedited dailies from a movie, TV series or commercial, to live events which would then be compressed for final delivery.
