By TVTechnology
published PBS station, KNME-TV has purchased Sony's XDCAM Professional Disc System.
The station--based at the University of New Mexico--plans to install the PDW-1500 decks in January. The 23 GB disc system can achieve at least 1,000 write, read and erase cycles, according to Sony.
KNME was able to fund the upgrade with a multi-year grant from the U.S. Commerce Dept. and matched funds from the state of New Mexico.
"You go from hundreds of moving parts in a conventional VTR to just two," said Jim Gale, director of engineering and operations at KNME.
