Peabody Awards Call for Entries

The oldest TV and radio awards program has issued its call for entries for 2008. The George Foster Peabody Awards is seeking the best material among original broadcast, cable, and Web programming. The deadline for entry is Jan. 15, 2009. Established in 1940 by the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications, the Peabody Awards are the oldest honor in TV and radio. Last year’s recipients, among others, included WFAA-TV in Dallas for a series of investigative reports, and KNXV-TV in Phoenix for an expose on security risks at Sky Harbor airport. Other U.S. winners included Discovery’s “Planet Earth;” NBC’s “30 Rock;” “God’s Warriors,” a three-part CNN documentary; a history of rockabilly music called “Whole Lotta Shakin’” from Public Radion International, and Univision’s “Ya Es Hora” citizenship campaign. Applications can be submitted at www.peabody.uga.edu.
