Philips CA system debuts in Moscow

Philips CryptoTec, a business unit of Royal Philips Electronics, demonstrated its CryptoWorks conditional access system at the CSTB annual exhibition and conference in Moscow February 10-13. The system was shown at I.S.P.A. Engineering's stand, Philips’ new representative in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and one of the country’s system integrators.

Designed for digital pay-TV operations, Philips’ CryptoWorks is a compact, secure and scalable conditional access solution, allowing for subscription TV and pre-booked/impulse pay-per-view. Its scalable pricing licensing model allows a low entry-level investment that can grow in accordance with increasing revenues, according to the company.

The system’s “one-core, one-card” concept is based on a flexible platform that can be upgraded or extended with additional functionality as required. One single smart card manages multiple independent operators in cable, satellite, terrestrial, or broadband IP networks. Philips CryptoWorks is also the technology engine behind ChinaCrypt, China's conditional access system.

Philips said that this first showing of CryptoWorks together with I.S.P.A Engineering at CSTB 2004 underscores the increasing demand for pay-TV services in the Russian and CIS markets and the secure protection of premium content. This is further supported by the rapid uptake of digital technologies in the region that allows broadcasters and network operators to offer TV viewers more feature-rich and interactive services.
