The Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) and public television programming executives announced last week four new digital programming services and the expansion of PBS HD.
The services will be available nationally on local public television stations and carried by cable systems operated by the largest MSOs. Earlier in the year, public broadcasters and the cable industry reached an accord under which cable operators would offer the analog channel and four digital programming streams from at least one public station.
Among the new public broadcast offerings: “Viva TV,” “World,” “Create” and “PBS Kids Go!” Additionally, PBS HD will be expanded. According to APTS president John Lawson, these are the first of the services public broadcasters plan to present as part of their digital programming lineup.
