Quantel Snags HPA Engineering Award

This year’s Hollywood Post Alliance Award for Engineering Excellence goes to… Quantel, for it’s Genetic Engineering technology. HPA described Genetic Engineering as an “all-new linking infrastructure for post-production and digital intermediate… much more than a SAN, combining real-time performance with an on-demand, open platform.”
Mark Horton, strategic marketing manager for Quantel, said Genetic Engineering is open to third-party systems, “with no license or special APIs. This makes it genuinely open and a wholly new approach to workflow, all the way to 4K and Stereoscopic 3D.”
The HPA also proffered Special Recognition to KIWA International, a New Zealand software maker that created VoiceQ, an application for dubbing voices into film and TV shows.
A Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed on Fred Rheinstein “for his service, commitment and dedication to the post-production industry,” HPA’s announcement said.
The HPA Awards will be held today (Nov. 1) at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
