Raycom Stations Multicasting With Omneon
Sunnyvale, CA--Raycom Media's KFVS-TV Channel 12, a CBS affiliate serving the Missouri communities of Cape Girardeau and Paducah, has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system in conjunction with Sundance Digital's FastBreak Automation for ingest, storage, and playout of syndicated programming, as well as for recording and play-to-air of commercial and promotion material. The new Omneon and Sundance systems at KFVS12 also support multicasting of Raycom UPN affiliates WQWQ and WQTV, which offer common programming to the Paducah, MO, and Murray, KY, markets.
"The Omneon Spectrum media server system enjoys an excellent reputation for reliability, and it is also extremely flexible in dealing with multiple compression schemes and video file formats," said Raycom Media vice president of technology Dave Folsom. "It acts as a single source--with multiple inputs and outputs--for all our recorded material. Program segmenting is easy and quick, and because its interface with the automation system is flawless, we're able to reduce our manual workload. The Omneon server has provided bullet-proof operation, and we've found Omneon's customer service to be excellent."
