Recent FCC DTS order opens new possibilities for stations
Few people have been more involved in the development and evolution of distributed transmission technology for digital television than Merrill Weiss.
Weiss, who developed the synchronization system for multiple transmitters in a DTS network that’s embodied in the ATSC standard, played an important role in submitting relevant filings to the FCC that were used in part to assist the commission in defining its DTS report and order released Nov. 7.
Given the importance of maintaining over-the-area coverage following the February 2009 DTV transition and the role DTS might play in achieving that goal, it seemed like a good time to speak with Weiss about the new FCC order.
This week’s Sound Off is presented as an audio podcast.
