Rich Welsh has announced he has been appointed president of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).

He succeeds Renard Jenkins, who has come to the end of his two-year tenure in the role. Welsh will serve as president from January 2025 to December 2026.

Writing on LinkedIn, Welsh said: “I look forward to working with my colleagues in this great organization, all the amazing talent in the industry and everywhere media touches to unleash creativity for our artists, ensure integrity for our media and deliver the best possible experiences to audiences everywhere in the world.”

Welsh was appointed SMPTE’s executive vice president in 2023 and has now moved up to the organization’s top role.

SMPTE is currently on the hunt for a new executive director, with Sally-Ann D’Amato stepping into the role of interim executive director last October.
