Robotic camera delivers HD bird’s-eye-view of inaugural parade
About two weeks ago, broadcast technology vendor Harris began its preparations for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama in Washington, D.C.
A long time partner with the National Press Club, Harris is providing its NetVX technology for HD signal transport from a robotic camera mounted on top of the JW Marriott overlooking the inaugural parade route. The National Press Club in turn will provide shots from the camera as part of the pool feed to news organizations covering the event.
The camera position was selected in part for its vantage point on the parade route and because shots it will deliver match some 3-D animation that another division of Harris is supplying to broadcasters for their inaugural coverage.
This week, Sound Off discusses the preparations with Harris broadcast systems engineer Lars Osterlind, who has been responsible for the effort.
This week’s Sound Off is presented as an audio podcast.
