Rorke Data Offers Kubota DVD Library
Kubota Comps Corp., a Japanese-based manufacturer of optical storage libraries, and its U.S. sales office Optical Storage Specialties, have inked a deal with Rorke Data to offer Kubota's BA-200, a 200-slot, rack-mountable DVD library with an over 2.5 MBs transfer rate.
The BA-200 uses 2-4 DVD-RAM/R's or other 120MM drives and is now a storage option for Rorke's StreamMine, an open platform broadcast server archive system. The BA-200 libraries can read from and write to DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD-RW media, as well as DVD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM and CD audio media.
Users can double the capacity of the BA-200 from 940 GB using a single-sided 120MM media to nearly 2TB using double-sided 9.4 GB DVD-RAM/R media. Up to three libraries can be connected using a SCSI-2 interface. StreamMine users can remove a section of the library off-site for long term storage or data security.
The BA-200 is shipping for a starting price of $9,300. Rorke Data is a San Jose, Calif-based digital storage systems provider to Fibre-Channel RAID, SAN, DVD, tape and optical libraries, Unix, NT and MAC environments.
