RTNDA Mourns Loss of Vice President Noreen Welle

Radio-Television News Directors Association Editor and Vice President Noreen Welle died Dec. 29 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. She was 57.

RTNDA said in a statement that Welle had been battling multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, over the past year.

Welle was the vice president for communications, marketing and membership at RTNDA in Washington, D.C. She had been there since 1997, after working for trade magazine publishers Hanley Wood as executive editor of "Builder" magazine. Welle edited RTNDA's monthly magazine, "Communicator" and RTNDA's handbook for new producers, "Power Producer." She also oversaw the Edward R. Murrow and RTNDA/UNITY Awards programs.

Welle was well known to reporters who cover television, radio and online journalism. RTNDA President Barbara Cochran said Welle's colleagues and friends are remembering "her feisty spirit, her warmth, her humor, her talent and her dedication."

She is survived by her husband, Tom and two daughters.
