SONICblue Inc. recently granted Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. a license allowing the company to combine its DVD/VCR products with SONICblue's Dual-Deck technology.
SONICblue developed the Dual-Deck VCR and DVD/VCR combination categories through its Go-Video brand. It holds patents covering Dual-Deck and VCR/DVD/DVR combination products. The company plans to dispense more licenses to other consumer electronics companies that want to market these combinations.
The company hopes that licensing its technology will help promote interest in adopting Dual-Deck technology in new consumer electronics products, and plans to broaden its line of "dual" products to meet increasing demand.
