Samsung to Release Dual-format HD Player
Samsung Electronics, one of the first companies to introduce a Blu-ray Disc player to the market, will introduce Duo HD, a dual-format player for both hi-def DVD formats by the 2007 holiday season.
The Duo HD (BD-UP5000) will also support HD DVD and Blu-ray interactive technologies, HDi and BD-Java, respectively. Duo HD joins Samsung's next-gen DVD series (which includes Samsung's second-generation Blu-ray player available at retail this month), according to the South Korean firm.
Samsung said, "Consumers are hungry for more HD content, but are currently confused about competing formats." Samsung intends for the new dual player to lessen some of that confusion by allowing consumers to purchase or rent titles of either HD disc format without fear of incompatibility problems.
