Sanken, the high-end Japanese microphone manufacturer, is introducing several new microphones at NAB, including the COS-22, a dual capsule lavalier mic.
In the tradition of the Sanken COS-11s lavalier, the ultra-miniature COS-22 measures 1.25 inch in length but boasts a full frequency response up to 20,000Hz. The two-channel, dual-omnidirectional COS-22 is designed for a variety of applications, including stereo, redundant lavalier on live broadcasts, and boundary-style miking.
Also coming to NAB is Sanken’s new CO-100K omnidirectional condenser microphone, a 100kHz mic designed for professional recording. Designed by Sanken in conjunction with NHK Science and Technical Research Laboratories, the CO-100K is slated for full spectrum recording for SACD, DVD-A and future high-resolution formats.
Also being introduced is the CUW-180, a single microphone body with two cardioid condenser capsules. Each of the two 180-degree capsules is independently adjustable for stereo and surround recording applications.
For stereo recording, such as common X-Y configurations, the position of both capsules maintains optimum on-axis response and phase coherence. For surround applications, two CUW-180 mics can capture four channels of left, right, surround left, surround right program simultaneously, with four independently adjustable signals. Two CUW-180s can be used for true four-channel recording.
Finally, Sanken will introduce the HAD-48 microphone preamplifier, which provides selectable gains of +20dB or +40dB to boost signal levels. The HAD-48 features an XLR-style barrel (XLR-3M - XLR-3F) that’s 4.14 inches long. Requiring no batteries, the HAD-48 operates with 48V phantom power and draws less than 4.5mA.
